Colorado Film Bank preserves, digitizes, catalogs, and provides access to Colorado's visual, audio, and documentary history. Our mission is to safeguard historical media before it is lost to time and make it accessible to researchers, museums, libraries, filmmakers, educators, and the public.
Archivist and filmmaker Ashley Swendsen has personally preserved everything for Colorado Film Bank. In her 27th year of collecting and preserving, the majority of the work here in Colorado Film Bank was done without pay and with the efforts of only one person. Colorado Film Bank specializes in film preservation, audiovisual restoration, oral histories, metadata creation, database development, archival assessment, historical research, and documentary production. Colorado Film Bank has provided preservation, digitization, consulting, and archival services for museums, libraries, filmmakers, educational institutions, and historical organizations throughout our planet. Colorado Film Bank maintains one of the largest privately preserved multimedia archives in Colorado, containing films, photographs, audio recordings, oral histories, documents, and historical media relating to Colorado history and the American West. The archive includes preservation equipment for film, videotape, audio tape, vinyl recordings, slides, photographs, and rare legacy media formats. Materials and research have been used by documentary filmmakers, historians, museums, publishers, television productions, and major motion pictures. Research and archival contributions have supported projects involving Colorado history, military history, transportation, racing, Native American history, aviation, and western heritage.
